On the eastern shore of the mountains of Arcadia in the Peloponnese, 3 hours' drive from Athens, via Corinth and Argos, Sapounakaika is an unspoilt, ancient village above the small, charming small seaside town of Tyros. Set on a curving bay looking across the sea to the islands of Spetses and Hydra, Tyros offers a range of shops and restaurants. The nearest beach at Tyros is 5 minutes by car and 20 minutes on foot and there are many other lovely beaches nearby.
The ancient site of Mycenae and the great amphitheatre of Epidauros are 90 minutes drive to the north, and the lovely Italianate city of Nauplion, with its 3 fortresses, many restaurants and smart shops is an hour away. A two-hour drive westwards through the mountains takes you to Sparta and the spectacular Byzantine city of Mistras.
